Rehabilitation of the Ash Handling Plant of the Hwange Power Station

1. This Invitation for Prequalification follows the
General Procurement Notice for this Project that appeared in United Nations
Development Business online (UNDB online) No. AfDB45-816/12 of 1st February
2012 and on the African Development Bank’s Internet Website (www.afdb.org).
2. The Government of the Republic of Zimbabwe has
received a grant from the Zimbabwe Multi-Donor Trust Fund (Zim-Fund)
administered by the African Development Bank toward the cost of the Emergency
Power Infrastructure Rehabilitation Project (EPIRP), and it intends to apply
part of the proceeds of this grant to payments for;

Ref: EPIRP/002 Rehabilitation of the Ash Handling Plant of the Hwange Power
Station.
3 The Zim-Fund has appointed The Crown Agents for
Oversea Governments and Administration Limited (Crown Agents) to act as its
Procurement Agent. Crown Agents intends to prequalify contractors and/or firms
for the ‘Rehabilitation of the Ash Handling Plant of the Hwange Power Station’.
The works will comprise the design, supply, construction and commissioning of
the replacement of: slurry pumps, ash pumps, sluicing water pumps, booster
pumps, sealing water pumps, bilge pumps and overflow sump pumps; complete with
skid frames, motors, flexible/fluid couplings, etc cabling from substation to
equipment skids, control cabling between substation- control room- equipment
skids, a new dedicated control and monitoring system, uninterrupted power
supply to the control room battery house, dedicated compressed air system, HVAC
for ash plant control room. It is expected that Invitations for Bid will be
issued in July 2012.
4. Prequalification will be conducted through
prequalification procedures specified in the Bank’s Rules and Procedures for
Procurement of Goods and Works, and is open to all bidders from eligible firms
and voluntarily formed joint ventures from all countries, as defined in the
Rules and Procedures and the Operations Manual of the Zim-Fund.
5. A complete electronic set of the
Prequalification Document in English may be obtained by interested applicants
through the submission of a written application to the email address
zimfundpa@crownagents.co.uk. No fee is due.
6. Applications for Prequalification should be
submitted in electronically to the email address below by 26th July 2012, and
be clearly marked “Application to Prequalify for Emergency Power Infrastructure
Rehabilitation Project, Contract Ref: EPIRP/002 Rehabilitation of the Ash
Handling Plant of the Hwange Power Station”.

7. Applicants will be advised, in due course, of
the results of their applications. Only firms and joint ventures prequalified
under this procedure will be invited to bid.
